There is an issue of momentum that will resolve issues of compatibility. At
present, noone will be slagged off for passing along proprietary data, but
once enough people use non-Windows platforms, there will be better backing
for such arguments. 

Firefox did something similar to the Web. A year or two ago people designed
pages for MSIE. They are now encouraged to cater for a variety and
MSIE-only sites become extinct. There is nothing wrong with desktop Linux.
It is the world that's around it that's a peril.
