On the other hand: SuSE 9.3, KDE 3.4, and I can't remember having to manually
restart kicker since I was on SuSE 7.2...

Is there perhaps some kind of unusual taskbar application or tray icon, etc.
that you're using, Steven?  I'm guessing a buggy one of those could take the
kicker down with it.
