RSS feeds as a 'crawling guidance map' mean that you have better control
over what gets indexed and how often it gets indexed. The content of your
pages will determine your positions in search engine results page. Hence,
only _content_ will determine your success. However, you sometimes need to
get items indexed quickly. Too late => lower SERP popularity. That's the
case where XML site maps are invaluable.

An artificial way of getting newer item indexed is by inserting links at
highly-ranked nodes.
