Also do not forget that overwriting it once will not be enough. Due to
the magenetism it is still possible to read some of the data with
specilised machines. The reason is that the sensitive machinery can see
if it was positive or negatively charged and that after even serveral
writeovers.

To make it easy on yourself, just get the http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
and there will be several tools for you to do this.

The easiest way however is to never sell your HD. Destroy them by
opening them, break them, put them through an electro magnet, then in
acid and then burn them. The person who is able to retrieve data from
that should be getting a nobel prize. :-)
