It is probably a very fundamental question, but I will ask anyway.

I include in my .bashrc file commands like xbindkeys and cron ~/.cron
(*ducking down* have done so for 2 years). This means that these get
invoked every time I open a shell. Which file in SuSE (*ducking down*
version 8.1) defines commands which are to be run only one at the start of
a session?
