Congress, Experts Call For Standard Military EHR

| The House and Senate are expected to ask the Departments of Defense
| and Veterans Affairs to use the same electronic health record system,a
| practice experts say would be helpful because the agencies treat a
| similar group of patients, Government Health IT reports.
| Joseph Dal Molin - a director of the not-for-profit WorldVistA,
| which promotes the use of open source VistA software - said that if
| the DOD used VistA "[i]t would lower software costs for both
| organizations." He added that if the DOD adopted the VA's EHRa
| rchitecture, both organizations would benefit from individual andj
| oint development efforts (Brewin, Government Health IT, 8/7).
This relates to an earlier article about the NHS (poor inter-site
comminication and uptime), a system that locks doctors out of their
patients' data (due to licensing) and a parking facility that was besieged
(also due to licences).
