I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

We keep hearing about all these *PLANS* to migrate to linux, and *in
process* moves to linux. We almost never (with very few exceptions) hear
about them once complete. One would think that pulling off such a feat
would be bragging rights, and you would want to publish your metrics about
how much money you've saved.... but no. Silence.

One has to wonder why. The argument that it "just works, so there's
nothing to talk about" doesn't fly, since the purpose of going through all
the pain of switching to another platform is to gain something. And human
nature is to brag about gains.

I can think of may 3 or 4 cases where someone has published any kind of
interview and talked about their linux migration AFTER the fact, and they
were either small shops (like ernie ball) or terminal server environments
(like Lago, FL), both running special purpose apps and not as a general
desktop.

Why doesn't anyone want to brag about how much money they're saving? Why
don't they want to be models of efficiency? Why do they get up and shout
about their conversions BEFORE they've done them, and perhaps even WHILE
they're doing them, but almost never AFTER?

It just doesn't add up. The only possible conclusions are: 1) The
migration failed, and they have egg on their face and are trying to shove
it under the carpet. 2) The manager spearheading the migration was sacked
or quit, and the conversion reversed. Again, trying to shove it under the
carpet. or 3) It costed them MORE money, and is still costing them MORE
money and now they don't want to talk about that.

I'd really like to see some real case studies about medium to large scale
conversions performed after the fact. Not expected results.
