Microsoft bought some units from them. Maybe it's a case of money laundering.
Buy rather than funnel, so to speak.

SCO are puppets, just like the Yankee Group. Only one company (and its
network of puppets) would require their services.

Microsoft used puppets to have a second implementation of .NET, which enabled
it to become a standard. They intend to pull a similar trick to get an ISO
standard for their Office XML mumbo jumbo (from implementation to standard),
but it's unlikely to be successful, for the latter reason, as well as one
existing ISO standard (ODF).
