I have read that before, but the same could be said (taken with a pinch of
salt) about sleep and alcohol, for instance. The hypothesis that coffee
stimulates thoughts and excess of energy is rather easy to support, so it's
one of these "sh*t Sherlock!" studies.

Open-mindedness can go for both extremes. It is not always acceptance, but it
can also stimulate anger and violence. An overdose of coffee can probably
make someone more irritable, which makes persuasion harder.
