Microsoft Faces Linux Dilemma Of Its Own Making
,----[ Quote ]
| When Microsoft signed a patent agreement with Novell, owner of SuSE
| Linux, it thrust itself onto the horns of a dilemma... that leaves
| Microsoft talking to its own customers who have more Red Hat than
| SuSE. Red Hat has refused to put itself and the Linux community in
| the position of paying royalties to Microsoft based on claimed
| patents, even though Microsoft would like to have such a deal.

| Suing software users could have consequences that neither Microsoft
| nor Linux users can with any certainty foresee. There would be
| fall-out for Red Hat, definitely, but an unpredictable level of
| fall-out for Microsoft itself.

I suspect that Oracle has done itself some similar type of damage as well.
The hostile takeovers, let alone the Red Hat ripoff, put a negative image on
its products.
