I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't backdoors. The security
services have always demanded and gotten access to communications.
Wether it was steam opening letters to physically tapping phones.

For example Crypto AG a Swiss firm who sold cypher machines to the
worlds governments was in fact a front organization for US/Israeli
intelligence. More recently the EU passed legislation specially
forbidding mobile phone manufactures building in real encrypting.

"Windows Vista is due to be rolled out later this year. Cambridge
academic Ross Anderson told MPs it would mean more computer files
being encrypted"

"He urged the government to look at establishing "back door" ways of
getting around encryption"

"The Home Office later told the BBC News website it is in talks with
Microsoft"

"Computer security specialists have been aware for two years that
unusual features are contained inside a standard Windows software
"driver" used for security and encryption functions.

The driver, called ADVAPI.DLL, enables and controls a range of
security functions .. it turns out that ADVAPI will run special
programmes inserted and controlled by NSA. As yet, no-one knows what
these programmes are, or what they do"
