The great thing about linux is that since the source-code is open, it's
not just an opaque, de facto, industry standard, it's a /real/ standard,
fully, accurately and precisely defined.  Because you have the source.

It's also the perfect economic benchmark, because the code is free of
charge.  Anything you're paying for is on top of the basic code.
