Uhh.. what?

You have to unmount the drive, or you risk data corruption.  That's what
the unmounting process does.  It flushes caches and makes sure file
integrity is solid.

Maybe they get around this problem by disabling write-caching on USB drives
(that would be a serious performance problem if they did), but that still
doesn't prevent the problem of removing the drive in mid-write by an app.
Sure, your filesystem may be ok after it's fsck'd and rolled back, but the
file in question may not.

This seems like a positively stupid thing to be advocating on Novell's
part.  Yeah, encourage people to go around yanking USB sticks
indiscriminantly.  Great job.
