Revenue streams are the worst when it comes to miscomprehension. People think
that money cannot be made from Free software. Let's look at a simple analogy
from the music world, okay? Here we have a seller and an artist. You have
the talent and the salesman. Free culture essentially eliminates this
middleman. Without 'acquisition' cost (or 'tax'), the artist can reach a
very wide audience (free downloads) and then use reputation to make money in
all sorts of way, without spending money and effort on marketing (or
labels). That's why labels love DRM and artists dislike DRM. Artists want
exposure. Labels need money. That's all they care about. The same applies to
coding and many developers favour programming that enables them to take
their work elsewhere, rather be restricted. Programs are a form of art too.
