[News] Pretty New Things in GNOME and KDE

Show Me that Updated Gnome Main Menu

,----[ Quote ]
| I'm pleased to share that the desktop design team at Novell is
| working on further improvements to the original Main Menu. The
| video below comes from the upcoming SLED10 Service Pack 1 as it
| looks in the current internal beta 3. (The unreleased status means
| that this is not necessarily the final product, and things may
| change from what you see today.

Blur using SVG filters

,----[ Quote ]
| It appears that SVG filters will become increasingly popular in the
| near future due to Inkscape, as they solve real design issues and
| help keep the filesizes manageable. It is probably not a trivial
| feature to implement, but hopefully future versions of QSVGRenderer
| will include support for this technology. Maybe in time for a KDE
| 4.1?

The Road to KDE 4: SVG Rendering in Applications

,----[ Quote ]
| Since KDE 4 development is in full swing with plans for a KDE 4.0
| release sometime later this year, I thought I'd put together a
| weekly piece entitled The Road to KDE 4. The idea is to have a
| short overview of one or two of the features that show progress
| in KDE 4. For my first issue, the goal is to show off some of
| the great SVG work that has taken place so far.
