Nobody knows Linux

| A Microsoft Vista DVD costs the equivalent of $3. You can get WindowsXP
| for $1.50. OfficeXP, $1.15. Where? Computer Village.

|
| A RedHat v10 six CD set costs anywhere from $5 to $7, depending
| on your bargaining skills. I got my guy down to about $5.30, and
| told him I'd be back to make the purchase. Either that, or maybe
| I'll get a free Ubuntu CD. Feisty Fawn. That same CD that Ubuntu
| ships out for free, costs about $2 at Computer Village.

Microsoft had a coordinated attack on the OLPC, a not-for-profit project
that happened to choose free software and low-cost AMD chips.

Microsoft Happy with the Evolution of Windows Vista Piracy

,----[ Quote ]
| But the truth is that Microsoft is happy with the way Windows Vista
| piracy is evolving. Is there a catch to this? No. The fact of the
| matter is that Windows Vista has delivered a heavy blow to
| software counterfeiters. The reason for this is the new Windows
| Genuine Advantage security mechanism integrated into the
| operating system.
|
| You may not notice this on the surface. On the surface, the
| Internet is crawling with Windows Vista cracks, hacks and
| workarounds. On the surface, every Windows Vista edition has
| been cracked and is available for download via peer-to-peer
| networks. But this is not the true extent of Windows Vista piracy.

| Specifically, Bill Gates, citing China as an example, said:
|
| "Although about 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but
| people don't pay for the software," he said. "Someday they will, though.
| As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours.
| They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to
| collect sometime in the next decade."

Negroponte says Intel should be "ashamed of itself"

,----[ Quote ]
| He is furious that Intel's CEO Craig Barrett called the One Laptop a
| gadget. The Negroponte initiative is caught in the middle of a vicious
| fight between AMD and Intel, he said.

One Laptop Per Child - Production Delays Caused By Microsoft, Intel?

,----[ Quote ]
| I sincerely hope that no matter what the people who are running the
| OLPC project decide, that their project will continue and not get
| bogged down in a play of corporate greed and ambitions.
