You are, of course right when you say Microsoft doesn't abuse BSD code
when they incorporate it into proprietary software - the BSD license
allows it, sad to say.

But when GPL developers use BSD code, then release the resulting
software under the GPL, not only are they also breaking no laws - they
are also creating from the BSD code a GPL program, which is then Free
as in FSF Free.  You may think Free Software is an abomination, but
who cares what you think?  (Some idiots and ignorant folk, yes, but
not anyone else.)
