Well naturally. It doesn't take a solicitor ("top" or otherwise) to
realise that software patent infringement threats have no bearing, in a
country which does not recognise software patents.
Frankly I hope Microsoft /does/ litigate; it would be great for British
(and most non-American) business. They never will though, and they know
only too well why. First, it is likely that the accusations are
unfounded. Second, even if therw is some shred of truth to these
assertions, it's likely to be counteracted by prior art or "triviality".
And third, one way or another, Microsoft (and American business in
general) would suffer greatly from the consequences.
It's a lose, lose, lose situation for the Software Patent system.
