Will Penelope be the death of Thunderbird?

,----[ Quote ]
| "It is our goal to build a single development community around Thunderbird
| and Eudora, so that both mailers advance faster than they previously have."
| Again, more nonsense from the Mozilla folk, it just does not compute.

So they disown Thunderbird because, according to them, Web-based mail is the
way forward, but then they take Eudora/Penelope (with lacking Linux support)
and make it Thunderbird-based. The neglect of Firefox for Linux was bad
enough.

Public Good and Mozilla

| Before someone flames me, for-profit corporations are, by definition, run for
| profit and to enrich the value of the corporation for the share holders.

Can a Public Good Survive Corporate Interest?

,----[ Quote ]
| Perhaps it’s inevitable that community-driven development, maintenance, and
| support will reduce markets for proprietary software up and down all of the
| stacks. Perhaps the most successful projects will have the strong support of
| businesses.
|
| Do you want to rely on their goodwill to allow you to use, study, and
| redistribute software as you see fit? Are you willing to take the risk that
| they will encourage a healthy commons which allows you to use your data as
| you see fit?
