List of New Features in Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex"

,----[ Quote ]
| Because all the posts about new features in 8.10 are scattered here and
| there, I thought I would compile it all into one convenient place.
|
| Post will be constantly updated, several times a day at most. Keep coming
| back to check what else is new in Intrepid!

"Monopoly raises two classes of problems for a free society. First, the
existence of monopoly means a limitation on voluntary exchange through a
reduction in the alternatives available to individuals. Second, the existence
of monopoly raises the issue of “social responsibility”, as it has come to be
called, of the monopolist."

Review: Kubuntu 8.10 'Intrepid Ibex' Alpha 4

,----[ Quote ]
| Gaming on the Cutting Edge – Part 4
|
| I've previously looked at Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2, Mandriva 2009 Beta 1 (KDE4.1)
| and Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4. I was planning on reviewing OpenSuse 11.1 Alpha 2
| next, though reading through their release notes it seems that it's too early
| to consider OpenSuse 11.1 Alpha 2 as a cutting edge gaming distro – the alpha
| issues heavily out way the benefits of accessing the new repositories. So
| instead, I'm going to look at Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4, an often overlooked
| distribution due to Ubuntu stealing most of the limelight (and don't forget
| Xubuntu, which stands in the shadow of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu).

Ubuntu 8.10 - My Thoughts So Far

,----[ Quote ]
| I know it’s only Alpha 4, but I decided to install it on my laptop last night
| because I can, and I had nothing else to do.
|
| [...]
|
| Other than that I’m really enjoying the Intrepid Experience so far.
| The “newhuman” theme has grown on me quite a bit. I actually quite like it
| now, I was unsure at first. Also Compiz works great (cube deformation & 3d
| windows have been added to my features). On Ubuntu 8.04 running 3d Windows
| made my laptop grind to a halt…

Ubuntu 8.04 Offering—Technical Details

,----[ Quote ]
| HDMI audio output is now supported with NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards, so
| you'll now be able to output both audio and video to your home A/V equipment.
| As many of you know for HDMI, the audio output is directed out what is
| essentially an HDMI video port, so the graphics drivers need to know how to
| interact with the audio controller.

A first look at Ubuntu 8.10

,----[ Quote ]
| In summary, it’s early days for Intrepid Ibex but it works well even at this
| stage. In fact, it is running sufficiently so that I am writing this very
| post in a Firefox session running on the thing.  It’ll be interesting to see
| how it goes from here and if any more pleasant surprises are visited upon us.
| After the “safety first” approach of Hardy Heron, I suppose that Canonical
| can feel a little more adventurous so we’ll see what comes. In the meantime,
| Here are a few screenshots below for your perusal...

Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2 Screenshot Tour

,----[ Quote ]
| As the Ubuntu developers failed to deliver a Live CD with this alpha version
| (it will be available in Alpha 3), we've tested one of the current daily Live
| builds. Here is the screenshot tour of this second alpha version of Ubuntu
| 8.10...

Ubuntu Intrepid alpha 2 out today

,----[ Quote ]
| Alpha 2 of Ubuntu’s 8.10 Linux operating system is expected to be released
| later today. In an emailed announcement last night, Steve Langasek wrote that
| ISO testing for 8.10, codenamed Intrepid Ibex, had been progressing slower
| than expected. “Usable desktop ISOs have been delivered late [and] we don’t
| yet have a confirmed-good set of ISO images that we can release as an alpha.

Intrepid Ubuntu plans out

,----[ Quote ]
| With Intrepid Ibex, the next version of Ubuntu Linux, just a few months away
| the development team has released details of the most pressing issues for the
| 8.10 release. Among these are better 3G integration, tighter Firefox
| integration in KDE, and faster boot times.

Horny for Ubuntu 8.10: first look at Intrepid Ibex

,----[ Quote ]
| The first alpha release of Ubuntu 8.10, codenamed Intrepid Ibex, was made
| available on Saturday. This preliminary Intrepid prerelease includes updated
| packages, a new version of the Linux kernel, and an experimental new visual
| style.

Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" Alpha 1

,----[ Quote ]
| One of the first things to notice about Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 1 is its new theme.
| Originally, Ubuntu 8.04 was supposed to introduce a (much-anticipated) new
| default theme for Ubuntu, but that was pushed back into Intrepid Ibex. The
| theme in Alpha 1 is much different from any previous version of Ubuntu (see
| The Visual History of Ubuntu). There is much browner and the current design
| is a complete overhaul with nearly everything being different aside from the
| background. However, we are only at Alpha 1 and there is still much more work
| left with fine-tuning this theme before it's settled in October.

Ubuntu Linux 8.10

,----[ Quote ]
| With the release of Ubuntu Hardy Heron now behind us most eyes are turned to
| October when Intrepid Ibex, or Ubuntu Linux 8.10, will make its debut. While
| Hardy Heron was designed to be stable enough to be a long-term support
| release, Intrepid Ibex promises to be packed with more exciting features.
