YouTube and GNU/Linux: download and convert videos the easy way

| GNU/Linux users are pretty well served by both stand alone applications,
| service menus, javascript and browser addons for getting the best out of
| Youtube. Taken together, they just about cover all the angles. For once, the
| GUI seems to have trumped the power of the command line. The biggest problem
| you are likely to encounter is not dependencies (!) so much as making sure
| that you have all the audio and video codecs installed. (Just don’t ask me
| about Fedora or PyTube.) In the meantime I’m off to YouTube to see if I can
| lay my hands on a video of James Taylor guitar licks and some tutorials on
| playing two-handed scales. Ouch.
