WiMAX Patent Pool Is Planned

,----[ Quote ]
| Six big technology companies are spearheading a plan to jointly license
| patents that cover the wireless technology called WiMAX hoping to limit
| royalty rates that could deter customers from using it.
|
| The participants are Cisco Systems Inc., Intel Corp., Samsung Electronics
| Co., Sprint Nextel Corp., Alcatel-Lucent and Clearwire Corp., according to
| people familiar with the situation and a document outlining the group's
| plans.
|
| They have scheduled a conference call Monday to announce an organization, the
| Open Patent Alliance, to gather rights to WiMAX-related patents and license
| them to makers of computers, networking devices and other products, these
| people said.

BitTorrent: Taking down DMCA takedown notices

,----[ Quote ]
| What can we conclude?
|
| * People who don't agree with the law should try to get it changed
| * People who are concerned by privacy issues should contribute to
| developing enhanced P2P systems: the paper suggests indeed a few
| directions such as on-the-fly black lists and stronger encryption.
| * People who have been unfairly targeted should fight back, with the help
| of organizations such as the Chilling Effect Clearinghouse or the EFF.

Patent-pending spellcheck software?!

,----[ Quote ]
| Patent-pending spellcheck software, that is?!
|
| First of all, patenting software or any algorithm based on the idiotic claim
| that it's actually a "business concept, method and system" (if not even
| an "apparatus" when they forcefully include the computer in the patent claim)
| is theft. It's slavery. It'd dictatorship with the complicity of the USPTO.
