MS apparently outsources its web servers, especially mirrors and does
not particularly care what they run as long as they do the job. It
would appear by implication that IIS is just not up to the job. There
are suggestions that some IT managers run some MS servers to keep MS
off their backs but rely on Linux servers to provide the real grunt
needed. The Linux servers would have significantly greater throughput
and hence statistics of numbers of servers running different software
types would tend to be slanted in favour of IIS. Transactional data
if available would give a more accurate picture.
