Microsoft's ability to fund or support acquisitions (e.g. Yahoo, which is
tempting at $13) is imperiled by this turbulence, whereas Free software
communities still have the same # of hours per day to carry on working on
projects. I can tell you for a fact that over the past year Microsoft has not
announced as many products or good news like it used to. It's a total drain.
Just watching the news feeds, you can immediately see the difference and some
months ago I speculated that they just type down patent applications instead
of actual /applications/.
I don't claim that /ONLY/ Microsoft suffers; I do, on the other hand, tell you
that it does suffer. That's not a lie.
