ODF workshop update

,----[ Quote ]
| These are just a few of the government presenters we have assembled for the
| workshop. While the workshop is intended for governments, we have also
| assembled a number of influential speakers from the private sector who have
| been part of the growing public debate concerning document formats from the
| very beginning. Bob Sutor, IBM’s Vice President for Open Source and
| Standards, reflects back on the early days of the debate and takes a peek
| into the future. Simon Phipps, Chief Open Source Officer, Sun Microsystems,
| examines ODF and the adoption-led market. With every major vendor now at
| least promising to implement support for ODF, how do we get from
| standardization to interoperability? With the expected arrival of ODF v1.2
| and support for metadata, spreadsheet formula, and digital signatures, how
| has ODF’s value proposition been boosted for governments? We’ll also hear
| about the proposed revision of the influential European Interoperability
| Framework (EIF) and what it means for governments.

KOffice 2.0 Beta1 Released

,----[ Quote ]
| KOffice uses the OpenDocument Format as its native format. This will
| guarantee interoperation with many other Office packages such as
| OpenOffice.org and MS Office. The KOffice team has representatives on the
| OASIS technical committee for ODF and has been a strong participant in the
| process of shaping ODF since its inception.

Open Document Formats finally default for Yale Law School A2K Conference

,----[ Quote ]
| Open Document Formats have finally become the default document format for
| presentations. Having been at all three editions, I am personally impressed
| that the ISP has come this far. In the first edition, we had proprietary
| document formats; during the second edition, there was a 50-50 thing going on
| but the default still remained proprietary. The third edition has proved to
| be 100% ODF.

Melaka City Council's OSS migration and savings

,----[ Quote ]
| In our ongoing series of Free and Open Source Software deployments in
| Malaysia, OpenMalaysiaBlog is proud to highlight the efforts of the City
| Council of Melaka. They were one of the first few departments to migrate
| completely to OpenOffice.org (98% of their 300 hundred seats. They need to
| retain a few copies of MS Office for some difficult proprietary files). Back
| in 8 December 2006, the Mayor of Melaka, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Zaini bin Mohd
| Nor, presented "Successful Deployment Of OpenOffice In The Public Sector
| Seminar" and was very enthusiastic about OpenOffice.org.
