"There is such an overvaluation of technology stocks that it is absurd. I would
include our stock in that category. It is bad for the long-term worth of the
economy."
--Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO

Another Linux user. Our ranks grow.

| It's now been about a week since 'wherry' first came online. So far I've only
| been called down to Beth's desk once to figure out a simple URL problem with
| the SMB share. Everything else - photo editing, browsing, printing, copying
| files to and from the shares from her old laptop, and just plain Getting Work
| Done she's done on her own, without needing my input. This alone shows how
| stable and, dare I say it, user friendly the Linux desktop has gotten.

Ubuntu Linux review
,----[ Quote ]
| So summarize what I think about Ubuntu, I would say it’s a pretty good distro
| to start out if you are switching from Windows to Linux and so far I love it
| and will be using it, also will try to figure out how to solve my crashing
| problems on fedora. Try it I would say, you are afraid you don’t know how to
| partition and all that, install Wubi makes life so much easier. Oh yea…and
| for those who says, I do most stuff on Windows and Linux doesn’t support my
| programs, there is always a way to run windows base application including
| games on Linux and one way is through Wine. Linux has a Photoshop like
| application too called GIMP which some claim is almost as good as Photoshop,
| may not be all that powerful but the basic n advance features are there.
| There’s msn for Linux, dreamweaver like programs, blue fish or Quantra Plus
| and other many more free application. Good thing now that Gnome and KDE
| programs could work with each other compared to last time where some programs
| were environment dependent.

Confessions of a Linux newbie
,----[ Quote ]
| This year my one-and-only New Year's resolution was to begin the transition
| to open-source software in general and Linux in particular. I thought I was
| just setting out to learn a new operating system. In fact, I was entering an
| entirely new world of computing.

Doin' it for the Noob...
,----[ Quote ]
| As much as I sincerely dislike the term "noob", I will use it here. Not in a
| derogatory fashion but just as an attention-getter in the title. Besides,
| there are so many rhyming possibilities.
|
| Here is what I want to do. I am going to present "The Noobie Desktop". This
| is, with room for generous variation, the basic desktop I present our new
| Linux Users upon initial install and during our Linux Labs. Let's take a few
| minutes and kick the tires, slam the doors...even take it for a spin. Then we
| can get to the real value of my blog.

Debian Etch: So Easy A Newbie Can Do It
,----[ Quote ]
| After getting a nudge from one of our DebCentral readers, I decided
| to give Debian another shot. You see, I haven't messed with Debian
| since Woody taught me I was just a wannabe geek. As for Etch, if
| you've installed *Ubuntu, you can install Debian Etch. In fact,
| Debian may have found a new home or two or three.
