KDE 4.2 “The Answer” - My Experiences So Far

,----[ Quote ]
| This Tuesday (as long as everything goes according to schedule) the release
| candidate of KDE 4.2 will be released, and I’m extremely excited to see how
| much has been improved since Beta 2. (Which is what I’m using now). As the
| final version of KDE 4.2.0 nears release, I’ll be writing more posts
| regarding my experiences and what you should come to expect. I’ll even
| include some screen shots for all of you too-much-text-impaired.
|
| 2009 will definitely be an important year for KDE. If you’re already using
| KDE 4.2 like me, what are your experiences so far?

KDE 4.2 Review From Inside Out. Part 1

,----[ Quote ]
| Plasma makes the desktop valuable again. I liked the default uncluttered mode
| without any icons and I liked the idea of widgets that you can put on the
| desktop. Unlike 4.0 and 4.1 Plasma in 4.2 is usable and stable (not without
| minor glitches though).
|
| KRunner is a killer feature. Once you try it, you'll never stop, believe me.
| In my opinion, KRunner may easily be one of the reasons to switch to KDE4. I
| only wish it was more prominent and more documented.
|
| As a general conclusion, I should say that after KDE4 I don't want to get
| back to KDE3. The new Plasma desktop is a huge success and with proper
| architecture and implementation behind it, I'm sure we'll see even more
| exciting improvements in the future. And of course, I'm sure that in
| subsequent KDE releases we'll also see even more polished and ironed out 4.x
| desktop.

KDE 4 rev 802150: Work in progress

,----[ Quote ]
| KWin with Wobbly Windows
|
| Kwin features a new visual effect known to most of you from Compiz: the
| Wobbly Windows. Only a few days ago the settings panel for this effect had
| tons of detailed options. Most of these options have been disabled now, the
| only thing that can be configured is the window deformation level while in
| motion. This seems more appropriate for a common user since the number of
| configurable settings was overwhelming before. One minor flaw that I noticed
| in KWin Wobble Windows is that the window shadow is not properly deformed (it
| does not adjust to the current shape of the window).

| I was just waiting for rev 790000, that’s all. I hope that your curiosity
| will be satisfied since there’s been a lot of changes to describe this time.
