I think minimal apt-get and synaptic will forever be around because it is
needed for all the different systems out there. But it is a good idea
to extend the download experience with storefront approach where each
application advertises its features and benefits with screenshots and more
verbose descriptions that lends itself to more search terms. Its not a case
of shouting to get more attention but revealing more information so that
users can make better choice.
