For distros with binary builds and repos it is also possible to just get the
source code of a 'broken' package. I just think it's simpler to get
something which gets installed quickly, almost as quickly as copying a file
over the network.

I haven't seen any package breakage in Debian... yet. (unlike Ubuntu and more
often Fedora)
