Gnus has a wonderful scoring feature

  ("^\\[News\\]" -1000 nil r)

ie kill all posts beginning with [News] : kudos to Roy for tagging his
posts in such a way.

So now I only get to see those posts from the (ridiculously) many which
other people have decided are of interest. I tried to check most of them
out but there were just too many.
