Interesting article. It's actually the flaws in search engines that lead
to site monopolies. Whatever a search engine's algo is based on whether
it be link popularity, or keywords, or content or something else,
someone is always going to be able to find a way to manipulate those
flaws to get their sites high ranking. It's the manipulator that creates
the monopolies. The search engines try to do things to stop the
manipulator but unfortunately the manipulator is always a step or two
ahead of the search engines.
