Good luck with all of that. Disk partitioning is (should often be) a one-time
task. Once you acquire the skills, they are most likely to be forgotten.
IMHO, this is one good reason for having somebody else handle this for you.
To many, this should also be a reason to buy a machine with Linux
preinstalled. No hassle. No uncertainties. Warranty or support are a
possibility, too. The same is true for Windows, FWIW.
You may find solace in the opinion that it all gets easier from here onwards.
