Right, the "features are already available on Linux/OSX/whatever" is an
oft cited argument against Vista on this newsgroup. However, I think the
people making this argument are looking at it from the wrong perspective. If
you are already a Linux/OSX/whatever user, then of course, Vista is not very
appealing to you, because everything it offers, you already have. But from
the perspective of a Windows user, it is very appealing. You can now get all
these great features that Linux/OSX/whatever users have been enjoying for
some time now, but WITHOUT losing access to your existing software. And
that's a big deal.

I like Ubuntu a lot, and I've got it installed on several of my
machines. However, my main machine, with the nicest monitor and keyboard and
beefiest CPU and videocard, etc. is still a Windows machine, 'cause that's
where I play games. If I could run all my existing programs, including my
games, on Ubuntu, I'd switch in a heartbeat. But I can't. So I stick with
Windows XP. And Windows Vista is looking very attractive as the next OS to
go on my main machine.
