This is as much about the vulnerabilities of Windows as it is of Skype,
I think. A weak operating system like Windows only needs a weak
application to be run on it, and the users are in all kinds of trouble.
Whilst there are occasional exploits in Linux, in its libraries, and in
its apps, as the OS is essentially secure, it's extremely difficult to
get all the pieces to align together in order to get a viable exploit
which can give access to system data or allow system damage to be
caused.
