To me, it would always seem like Norton Commander. When I moved to Windows
3.1 I lacked NC, so I often ran in DOS mode just so that I could still use
it. It was difficult to let it go and I still have NC on my hard-drive (I
was rarely using it until several ago). Later came NC for Windows, but it
was utter junk in terms of usability. I know of Midnight Commander, but I
wasn't in that 'scene' at the time.
By the way, there is a mode in Konqueror which makes it behave somewhat like
Midnight Commander (or Krusader. See entries under Profiles.
