I don't think that many would argue with you (or the author
of this article). Microsoft has always been good at
/selling/ stuff... even if the quality was low. Not only
that, but part of the advertising campaigns tackled and
ridiculed the competition directly. Many of the software
products, however, have become such a mess (e.g. Windows
Vista needs 60% of its code to be rewritten), so even the
best marketeers will not be able to hide it. Many products
depend on this codebase, which left Microsoft facing a wall.
And many programmers who are familiar with the code are
flocking elsewhere, to make matters worse.
