If you want to boycott the entertainment industry, you can choose to do
so, but rest assured that some vendors out there will stand out by
offering DRM-free media, fully backed & supported by the studios in
question. Those who are careless will be financially penalised. If you
know your way around, you will be at a position of advantage, at the
expense of others. It is a similar scenario to that which involves Windows
users -- namely those who settle down with one desktop, fragmentation,
occasional disk wipes, and viruses.

There are examples in history when companies exploited the naivety of the
customer only to lose all business when the blunder unfolded. Lockin and
DRM 'distater stories' are yet to make some big headlines in mainstream
media. The evils of DRM will then become transparent, much in the same way
that people come to grips with backward compatibility (or, most
definitely, lack thereof). Sadly for them, this educational curve might
take time. Presently they are crippled in stealth.

Best wishes,

Roy
