I had to read that several times before I was quite sure it said
  "cork".

The analysts play to only one tune, that of the sponsor of their work.
Sometimes, in order to drum up business, they'll do some additional
stuff for "free", they showcase it, and use it to bring in more punters.
The tone of the showcase work tells the reader only one thing - who
their target punters are.

Interestingly, the rather solid response from the free software
environment to Laura D's previous works might've made this approach
misfire somewhat. I do wonder if the implications of free software on
the business world aren't going to run /much/ deeper than previously
thought. One interesting thing is that the kind of analyst who does
good pictures and has a high-level view of what's out there might no
longer be required, whereas the kind who understands how things work
might be more desirable.

We need a follow-up to the cath & baz to explore this!
