In KDE, KSysguard can be invoked with the processes tab in focus by hitting
CTRL+ESC (by default). In Gnome: gnome-system-monitor or gtop, or whatever
they use to invoke it nowadays. When a process freezes, GNOME (Ubuntu at
least) often prompts the user, suggesting that the process gets 'killed'.
This is good from a user's perspective, for those who do not understand
computers too well.

Best wishes,

Roy
