Absolutely. Even large companies recognise the fact that people (or
customers) prefer suitable products that are tailored to them 'out of the
box'.

Imagine having to modify a whole cluster of Ubuntu workstations. Without
grafing home directory settings and/or moving from machine to machine in a
production-line fashion...

That, as a matter of fact, is why companies create their own images (even
Windows images). Linux is ahead in that respect because it gives the user
power and control. Microsoft, on the other hand, is a control freak as it
advocates a communist approach where everyone gets precisely the same tools.
Nothing more, nothing less. No wonder Windows users compile lists of
must-have applications and require long hours to get their Windows
installation to suit them. Been there, done that. This applies to
professional and power users in particular. Others just don't know better,
so they use a bad environment which they don't know how to extend. As a
result, they are stuck with a 'distribution' that does not suit them and
thus reduced their productivity.

Best wishes,

Roy
