[News] Patchguard - Blissful Ignorance?

Vista Patchguard: A Waste of Time?

,----[ Quote ]
| Reality Check. Do you see what's happening here? Apparently Microsoft
| doesn't feel that third-party companies are needed to keep your Vista
| system secure. In the end, if you are using Vista, chances are you'll
| be using a Microsoft security product to "protect you" from Internet
| related threats. Otherwise you may find yourself confronted with a
| fair amount of downtime.
|
| It's my opinion that corporations as a whole have adopted the "create
| a problem, offer a solution" philosophy. I honestly neither like nor
| dislike this belief, as it really comes down to its usage, not the
| concept itself.
|
| It's just unfortunate that Microsoft appears to be using this technique
| to discard the needs of its users in an effort to gain control over
| the Windows security market. I'm all for competition, but not when the
| end user gets caught up in the crossfire.

Vista PatchGuard Hacked

,----[ Quote ]
| "Hackers have already broken PatchGuard and can disable it. This
| means that hackers can already get malicious code into the Windows
| Vista kernel; while legitimate security vendors can no longer protect
| it. This presents a serious new risk for consumers and enterprises
| worldwide," stated Oliver Friedrichs director of emerging
| technologies in Symantec Security Respons.
