[News] The Use of Concrete Figures and Facts Helps Sell Free/Libre Open Source Software

Justifying the use of FOSS

| Statistics are often the refuge of scoundrels but occasionally they can
| mean something. A case in point is the paper drafted by David A. Wheeler to
| advance a simple argument for the use of free and open source software.

Hopefully, Mark's digest are documentary evidence of the progress made. As
Bill Gates once said, it's a good thing that we have museums to show that
FLOSS used to have some nasty competition. Or did he say something a little
different...?

The figures and events speak for themselves and the publication below is
worth seeing, rather than relying on figures in Companies' pamphlets.

| Finally, I've released a new version of "Why Open Source Software /
| Free Software (OSS/FS, FLOSS, FOSS)? Look at the Numbers!" This paper
| continues to provide "quantitative data that, in many cases, using
| open source software / free software (abbreviated as OSS/FS, FLOSS,
| or FOSS) is a reasonable or even superior approach to using their
| proprietary competition according to various measures. This paper's
| goal is to show that you should consider using OSS/FS when acquiring
| software."
