Re: [News] Microsoft Gets Scummier in Anti-Linux Attacks

Verily I say unto thee, that Roy Schestowitz spake thusly:

> I feel really bad for him and his partner because some jackass out

Yeah I read that initial post. I also read the first rebuttal which
points to an official page on the Indy500 web site, confirming the
Tux500 bid, verifying the authenticity of the whole campaign.

I'm not naive, so I realise that even in the World of Linux, there may
be conmen out there, but something tells me that someone dying of cancer
is unlikely to be one of them. Where's the long term benefit?

That post by Penguin_Pete has got to be the most perversely sick attack
I've ever read. It's subhuman. Someone should start legal proceedings.

Well it's like playing the lottery, isn't it? One doesn't play because
one is *guaranteed* to win. There is such a thing as hope, without
which, nobody would ever bother doing anything.

Linux desperately needs promotion though. Many of the misconceptions
about Linux arise because it is low-profile. It needs more exposure in a
less Geeky, and more mainstream, arena. One has to think outside the
box, and explore new avenues in order to expand mindshare. Frankly, I
think there should be many more such endeavours.

The odds are against them, but even if they don't raise the necessary
funds, I'm sure what they *do* raise will end up going to a good cause
nonetheless. We'll see. You never know, maybe some benefactor will step
in at the last moment and fill the void; some pro-Linux company, for
example - it's not entirely inconceivable.

> The publicity impact gets 'diluted'.

As the saying goes, no publicity is bad publicity. It just depends how
one spins it.
