Radeon Driver Gets R500 TV-Out Support

,----[ Quote ]
| The open-source R500 support from the Radeon driver, now includes TV-Out
| capabilities. Through a series of three commits this morning to the
| xf86-video-ati git tree, TV-Out support is now detected through the AtomBIOS.
| Reading the TV standard is also done through this Video BIOS abstraction
| layer.

RadeonHD Driver Gets HDMI Support

,----[ Quote ]
| The xf86-video-radeonhd driver has today received support to handle HDMI
| (High Definition Media Interface) connectors. While if you've used a DVI to
| HDMI dongle with the RadeonHD driver it would have worked already (as we
| shared in our recent ATI HDMI Linux article) this support is for those with
| integrated connectors.

A new road for AMD and ATI

,----[ Quote ]
| Back at the Red Hat Summit, Henri Richard said that AMD (and the former ATI)
| were going to come up with a plan to better support open source. Today we see
| the results of that promise and I have to say I’m incredibly impressed with
| the commitment that they have decided to make.

AMD 8.41 Display Driver Preview

,----[ Quote ]
| Whether you are using a Radeon X300 purchased a few years ago or the Radeon
| X1950PRO, the 8.41 driver is noticeably faster. How much faster? In many
| cases it is about 50% faster while in some configurations it may go as high
| as 90% or more. In fact, in some benchmarks the Mobility Radeon X300 was over
| 10x faster!

Future AMD GPUs To Be More Open-Source Friendly?

,----[ Quote ]
| AMD is on the heels of releasing the next set of GPU programming
| documentation to aide in the development of the open-source R500/600 drivers
| (xf86-video-ati and xf86-video-radeonhd). It's already been discussed what
| this NDA-free documentation release will have, but one of the questions that
| have repeatedly come up is if/when AMD will release information on
| accelerated video playback. AMD's John Bridgman has now stated what they plan
| to release in the video realm as well as a new requirement for their future
| graphics processors: being open-source friendly while avoiding DRM.

AMD 2007 Year In Review

,----[ Quote ]
| AMD does realize that everything isn't perfect and going into 2008, they are
| working on more features and changes for their Linux driver as well as
| bringing on additional staff. Need we say that 2008 should be another very
| interesting year for AMD and Linux?

Chips and Motherboards that support a Free BIOS - LinuxBIOS

,----[ Quote ]
| You can help our campaign by buying AMD CPU chips and not buying Intel. AMD
| have been helpful but Intel needs to be persuaded. Likewise, buy motherboards
| that support free BIOS. Tyan Computer Corporation are very helpful to the
| LinuxBIOS project and employ a full-time LinuxBIOS developer.

AMD Catalyst 7.12 Linux Driver

,----[ Quote ]
| It's that time of the month again where we get to share with you all of the
| details on the latest ATI/AMD Linux driver release. This month, the ATI
| Catalyst 7.12 Linux driver (formally, what is known as fglrx 8.44) brings a
| host of new changes, mostly in the form of bug fixes. In total, there are
| just under a dozen noteworthy bug fixes in this release -- including
| addressing 3D acceleration issues on AGP graphics cards and the well-known
| OpenGL memory leak that was introduced with the new driver code-base. In
| addition, the FireGL graphics cards are now supported on this new driver
| code-base.
