Re: Microsoft Polices Web to Defend Vista

ability
to enforce it, to prevent other from publishing copies to others
without
the properly license.

Despite what Napster tried to argue, putting copyrighted material
on a web site and allowing others to "share" it, without compliance
with the terms, conditions, and royalties of the copyright license, and
without a proper distribution license.

I was quite surprised to see Vista on sale at the computer show
last week. The "OEM Price" for BASIC was $49, for Business was $159,
and for Ultimate was $199. I'm sure that Microsoft would not approve
of these
premature sales, especially in a computer show where not everyone
buying
Vista was buying a new computer.

The one thing that might have tempted me was that when I have
previously
purchased the OEM license, I often got an OEM License agreement with
it.
But given that Microsoft hasn't even authorized the sale, I didn't want
to take
a chance on not being able to get it activated. Besides, I've already
indicated
that I'm not terribly interested in paying a rediculous amount of money
for
a memory sucking pig that ill try to grab all available memory and
fight
giving it up, especially since Home Basic cannot be used with Virtual
Machines,
and anything else will try to install features which obstruct
functioning as a
virtual machine. With XP, or 2K, I can allocate 128Meg of a 1.5 GIG
RAM space
to a Windows VM, and Linux/VMWare will keep it from grabbing everything
else.

Something is unclear here. Are they offering this via a public web
site?
If so, they could find themselves facing 5 years in federal prison, or
being owned, in part, by Microsoft. Assuming they have anything of
value. It would be prison if not.

The other possibility is that this is a corporate server, making Vista
available only to their employees.
But the nature of the letter would seem to indicate that this is not
the case. Even if it were, Microsoft
hasn't authorized such distribution yet, have they?
