Microsoft builds software whose behaviour aligns with Microsoft's needs, not
the customers needs, so it sounds about right.

Just think about the kettle that tells the weather and a $5000 touchscreen-ish
PC. You could get mpx working for free on GNU/Linux, but a new PC for 120
quid, and a touchscreen for a coupla hundred. For 300 pounds you can build
your own 'Surface' within an hour. It has been possible for as long as mpx has
been around... at least 2 years. In fact, as pointed out before, several (even
Linux-based) solutions just like Surface existed in the past. Microsoft's
Surface isn't even available  to developers yet. From a sales point-of-view,
it's akin to vapourware. A couple of hotels don't cover R&D expenditures and
America is getting increasingly poorer, with a social gap that widens. Only
the 98th percentile (or higher) will even consider that "Big Ass Table".
