Some very interesting figures have just come out from Bloombeg (I found this
in Technocrat if that matters):

Europe's Growth Outpaces the U.S., Led by Investment (Update2)

"Europe's economy grew at three times the pace of the U.S. in the first
quarter as investment by companies surged the most in a decade, countering a
drop in consumer spending."

Boy, oh, boy. The USPTO, the Draconian laws, the predatory monopolies (and
government) are gradually destroying the economy. IBM and Microsoft are in
buyback mode. Novell will soon enter this doomday scenario as well (it's
operating at a loss). Motorola has just sacked 4,000. Dell has just sacked
8,000. IBM sacked 1500+~50 last week (separate axing batches). And there are
more... I take no pleasure in this because I have family in the States and I
like the country (not as much as I used to though).

Remember the recent study which was covered by the BBC? The US sank from 1st
position to 7th position in just _one year_. I can't recall the criterion/ia
they used. I think the greed that brought the country to the top (with
uneven distribution of wealth) has led to a pinch too hard. It's paying the
price now. Those who play nice will gain at the expense of demising bullies
like Intel, SCO, and Microsoft.
