An Absolute Review
,----[ Quote ]
| Absolute Linux 12.0.6.will definitely stay on my hard drive for now, and I
| will be playing with it within the next few weeks until I can fully decide
| whether it could stay a lot longer, or not. Based only from my initial tests,
| I can say that it has the potential to replace my older Zenwalk system. I
| don’t really consider Absolute Linux newbie-friendly, but all things
| considered, Absolute Linux is absolutely a worthy distro to watch.

“Is a cursory look at the CentOS LIVE CD worth every penny?”
,----[ Quote ]
| CentOS is simply a different approach to the whole Linux support puzzle. Some
| people pay a subscription because it fits their needs, and others use IRC and
| mailing lists to fill in the holes. My highly unscientific opinion says that
| there are more people happy with CentOS in their environments than not,so any
| budding reviewer should probably get in contact with a few of them before
| writing any articles. I know we did at SEL.com.
|
| [...]
|
| Of course, we mustn’t be completely negative with this post, and as I write
| it I realized there could be an issue out there worth looking into that stems
| directly from this little parlay into the world of OS reviews. Do a majority
| of users understand the difference? Instead of attacking the review, which
| gets its CDs and DVDs crossed up, could we instead ask if there’s an issue in
| how the two are defined? I find that, unfortunately, in cases like this, the
| Linux community attacks the messenger, instead of addressing the overall
| problem: Not everyone on the planet Earth understands, uses or even likes
| Linux. Instead of labeling them an idiot, or a noob or whatever, maybe some
| hand holding is in order. Who knows, you could ultimately be adding another
| member to your ranks.
|
| Regardless, this whole exercise is a lesson in headline writing; when you
| post a headline that promises a review of an operating system, make sure it’s
| the right one!

Stepping out of Linux and into BSD: A first look at PC-BSD
,----[ Quote ]
| Is BSD ready for prime-time? PC-BSD 1.4, a desktop-centered, FreeBSD based
| operating system has just been released and is looking to attract attention
| from the growing throngs of Linux users. But how well does it stack up to
| popular and easy to use Linux distributions like Ubuntu? Why should anyone

Linux Mint Review
,----[ Quote ]
| This review is about the all new Linux Mint 3.1, codenamed "Celena". Mint is
| based on Ubuntu (in this version Ubuntu 7.04) and is compatible with its
| repositories, meaning that you get access to the huge Ubuntu repository which
| contains over 10.000 programs. But lets see everything in detail.

First look at PC-BSD 1.4
,----[ Quote ]
| So, all in all pros minus cons, PC-BSD is an amazing project. It allows many
| to experience the benefits of BSD clones who otherwise might not be able to.
| On the desktop it would be a wonderful alternative for the experienced and
| inexperienced alike. Additionally, it could possibly work out on a laptop for
| users who are willing to get some virtual dirt under their nails. PC-BSD is
| probably the best opportunity to experience "personal computing - BSD style."

Kubuntu v.s. PC-BSD
,----[ Quote ]
| I played a bit with Kubuntu this morning in preparation for the
| article "PC-BSD for Ubuntu Users". It made sense to me to compare the two
| operating systems if they were both running the same window manager (KDE) so
| I wouldn't be distracted by Gnome v.s. KDE issues. That was my first
| mistake....
