I have just 256MB of RAM in my home PC and 512MB at work. Linux is happy with
that, even where demanding tasks are involved (such as indexing 200,000+
USENET posts and holding the index in memory/cache).

Anything else is just gymnastics with computer resources, either due to
delibarely bad design or poor programming that takes no account of efficiency.
