Music fans who purchased music from Microsoft's MSN Music service are
in for another cruel awakening about the harsh realities of digital
rights management. As of September 1, it will become impossible to
reauthorize songs purchased from the MSN Music store, which Microsoft
shuttered to make way for Zune.

I think this world seems big enough and rich enough, that when things
like this 'Digital Restrictions Management' come along, why can't
people simply decline to purchase such products? The 'criminal'
element will be very little inconvenienced by anything that might be
viable in this real world; very many people of good civil intent will
be harmed by it. This is like Washington filling airports and gov't
buildings with bush nazis to 'protect' everyone; like the RIAA harvesting
kilobucks from people who *might* have copied down some music. We are
protected from women with nipple rings and from 5-month-old terrorists;
what is going on here? It is a terribly wrong direction and it takes
away from actually fingering and responding to where the trouble is.
There seems little us plain old citizens can do for ourselves; but
there is that option, just don't step in to that cesspool.
